Days of Christmas 3&4: Snow & Ice!

These sweet southern boys have never seen snow, and their most memorable experiences with ice have come from the snow cone stand during the summer rather than from anything sent by mother nature. So, we improvise. =)

Happy third day of Christmas Jackson & Andrew! Santa will be here in just 22 days! We live in Texas so unfortunately you are unlikely to see real snow this year. Here’s the next best thing—make some fake snow and have a snowball fight!

 First the cornstarch...

Then the shaving cream...

Mix it up really well...

And you have SNOW!

For your viewing pleasure, the entire snowball fight in time lapse video!
Benjamin is not sure if he's ready to be part of all that craziness!

Happy fourth day of Christmas Jackson! Santa will be here in just 21 days! It may or may not be cold outside with our Texas winter, but this afternoon we are going to experience a lot of ice...when we go ice skating! Bundle Up! Afterwards, we will warm up with a cozy family movie night!

I had realistic expectations for this activity...taking a 3 year old and 5 year old ice skating when they've never been on skates of any kind. Sounds promising, right?

I actually thought Andrew would catch on quicker than Jackson. This is the kid who mastered a scooter at 18 months old. Bless his heart, I was so wrong. He looked like a baby giraffe learning how to walk. He spent more time on his bottom than on his skates. He did figure out though that it was pretty fun if he stood ON the cone and let mom push him around. =)

Jackson did pretty well! As long as he had the cone, anyway. I think with a few more trips to the skating rink he could be pretty good.

Benjamin provided a welcome reprieve for the parent who had tagged out. He was so snuggly warm and even humored both of us for a selfie.

Benjamin got a little cranky at the end, and Jackson was not ready to leave. I convinced him to leave the ice by promising we could come back.
