Andrew is 3!

Our precious Andrew is 3!

It's hard to believe that just one year ago he was still such a baby in so many ways. Over the last year he gave up his paci, moved into a big kid bed upstairs with Jackson, potty trained, learned to mostly dress and undress independently, began speaking in complete sentences, and became a big brother! Whew, that's a lot for one year!

Two words that best describe Andrew are tough and sweet. His earliest nickname, Drewdozer, is still perfectly apt today. He approaches most situations with kind of a rugged, laid back, confidence. If he falls off his scooter at full speed he simply stands up, brushes himself off, says "I'm ok!" and zooms off. When he collided with another child at soccer, Andrew hopped up and took off with barely a glance back, while the other child sat and cried for the next 5 minutes. He definitely doesn't know his own strength. But man is he sweet! At bedtime, I get at least a dozen kisses accompanied by an "I love you mommy!" He is not a cuddler, but is extremely generous with his loving words and brief displays of affection. Andrew is our moral compass, never forgetting to say the prayer at mealtime. He also frequently expresses his gratitude to others unprompted, like when you wipe his bottom...it's always accompanied by a sincere "Fank You Mommy!"

His world has kind of been turned upside down in the last couple of weeks with Benjamin's arrival, but he has taken it perfectly in stride. Benjamin is his new favorite recipient of all that love. About a hundred times a day he tells Benjamin he loves him or says "I love my baby brudder!" It's been so fun to see this nurturing and softer side of him.

Andrew loves dress up and playing pretend. He doesn't really play with toys, at least not in the way they are intended. This makes him impossible to shop for, but a laundry basket, a clothes hangar and a jump rope will keep him occupied longer than any toy. And like his older brother, he's drawn like a magnet to sticks at the park. Wrestling and goading Jackson are also favorite past times. He knows exactly how to push Jackson's buttons and takes immense pleasure in doing so.

As for favorites, here they are in his own words...

Our family wouldn't be half as fun without you, and our hearts much less full. Happy 3rd Birthday sweet boy!
