To Everything there is a Season

There is a big change coming in the Malnar house. On Monday, Jackson will be going to a new school.

Several months ago, for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with the care he has received at his old school, we decided that it was time to consider a new school for our boys. Waiting lists for preschools in our town are kind of crazy, so we put them on a wait list and didn't think much else of it. Then a few weeks ago, I received an email letting me know that a spot had opened up for Jackson at the new school. We spent an agonizing weekend analyzing the pros and cons, and ultimately decided that moving him was the best decision for our family.  But it was an incredibly tough decision and I may have ugly cried when we told the director of the old school that next Monday morning. Because, simply, this has been a place that Jackson loves, and where he has been loved. And that is hard to say goodbye to.

Over the last few weeks, we've been getting him ready for his new school. We've taken a tour, he's met his new teachers and we've been talking a lot about the new routines. But the part of the transition I have been dreading the most was saying goodbye to his old school, old friends, and old teachers.

Tuesday was his last day at his old school, and we made cards to take to all of the teachers. Having been there since he was 10 weeks old, he has had virtually every teacher in the building, and so we took some time that morning delivering the cards and saying thank you. Each of these ladies has been such a blessing and we are so grateful for the positive impact they have made on Jackson's life!

When he arrived to his class, he went around and also hugged all of his friends saying "goodbye friend, I will miss you." It's a good thing I was not there because I would have lost it.

After all, these boys have been friends for a long time....for as long as each of them can remember.

What has amazed me is how brave Jackson has been about all of this. I, on the other hand, have been a mess! Our prayer is that Jackson's sense of peace and courage continues through the transition and that he adapts quickly and easily to his new school.

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven." Ecclesiastes 3:1
