The Race

Most weekdays when the clock hits 5:00, I'm scurrying out of my office to get started on what I have termed "The Race". While my heart is more than ready to see my boys, sometimes I have to mentally and physically take a deep breath and brace myself for the hectic pace that is necessary to make it through the next three hours.
If we've carpooled as we've been doing more lately, I first race to pick up Justin. Then we race to the boys' school to get them both picked up by 5:30, or else incur a late charge. By the time we race home it's nearly 5:45. Jackson likes to watch Curious George when we get home and Andrew often falls asleep in his carseat, so we have about 15 minutes to race to get dinner started, unload the dishwasher, go through backpacks and the mail, etc before one or both of them start needing us.
After George and while dinner is cooking, we play for a bit. By about 6:30 we are racing to potty, wash hands and get ready for dinner. After dinner, we might have a few more minutes to play and then it's time for bath, pajamas, brushing teeth, reading stories, singing songs, snuggles and bed. Finally around 8:30 both boys are asleep and Justin and I race to finish all of our chores so we can collapse on the couch, exhausted.
"The Race" is the hardest work I do all day. Thank goodness it's also the most rewarding.

I didn't blog last week since we were busy prepping the house, so here's a quick catch up...

Justin had a meeting on Tuesday night, and came home to this scene, which is quite possibly my favorite time of each day. Fresh out of the bath clean smelling babies in their PJs who are finally somewhat still and cuddly, and enjoying a few stories, snuggles and whispers before bed.
Sweet brothers holding hands.
Andrew has become very "grabby". If it's within his reach, he is grabbing, pulling and pinching. Poor Jackson's hair and then his ear was the target in this moment.
Andrew can do a pretty great push-up. Check out this form!

He's rolling all over the place now. I put him down in the middle of a blanket today, went and washed my hands and came back and he was in the middle of the floor, completely off of the blanket. And reclining is for little babies! Big boys like Andrew have to sit up all the time.

He's only 4 1/2 months old and is sitting up great on his own! I can put him down and he will sit and play with his toys for a few minutes. He will still topple forward if he's reaching too far though!

Does this melt your heart as much as it does mine?

We enjoyed a little park time Saturday. Here, Jackson told me he was riding his 4-wheeler!

Daddy was riding his 4-wheeler too...

Mommy and Andrew
When Jackson was climbing on the playground apparatus he started singing "Zacchaeus was a wee little man". I guess because he was climbing and high up, it made him think of the line "he climbed up in the sycamore tree for the Lord he wanted to see." So then he was acting out the song and daddy had to play the part of our Lord. And then he changed the words to "Jacksonchaeus was a wee little man...." and proceeded to sing it at the top of his lungs as he marched around. LOL.

Today when we went to Target, Jackson got to pick out something to spend his $11 he got in his Valentines cards. He very decisively picked a cupcake playdough set and we played with it after nap. He played with it for over an hour!
And little brother played with his feet....

and voraciously gummed at his toys two at a time.

nom, nom
Handsome big brown eyed boy!

Grandparents Day

Jackson's school hosted Grandparents Day on Friday. The plan was to share a special snack and an art project with a grandparent or other special loved one. Jackson's grandparents live a bit too far away to make it for snack time, but he is a very loved little boy and his Aunt Abby happily agreed to attend as his special person!
They enjoyed banana splits, made a tye-dye star and Jackson showed Abby the ropes of the Owls Class at St. Michaels. And Abby received a well-deserved award!
I am very thankful for a sweet friend who loves our little boy and made sure that he felt very special and loved. Grandparent, aunt, friend...he doesn't care what her title is, just that she loves him! Thanks Aunt Abby!

Well, it's official...our house is actually for sale.
These pictures show you how we feel about it...

Half excited about starting a new chapter in a house that has room for us to grow into, half sad about leaving this place where we became a family. We moved into this house in 2007. We placed the offer the day I got my official offer letter for my full-time job at Texas A&M. I was finishing up grad school and we hadn't been married even two years. We could still be considered newlyweds and were so excited to have a place to call our own. 6 years, two babies and countless happy memories later, we've simply outgrown our first home and it's time for us to move on.

We've spent the last week prepping, cleaning, staging and de-personalizing. All but a tiny handful of our precious photos and knick-knacks have been boxed up. The house is starting to echo a little bit as we remove excess furniture and such. We are exhausted from the late nights we've spent getting everything ready, but we are ecstatic about finding the next place we will get to fix up until it's perfectly us. We are anxious to sell our house quickly so we can move out of this limbo stage, and praying that the right house will be ready for us when we are. All we can do now is wait...and hope...and pray.........and keep our house super clean!

Date Night

Nana came to town this weekend which meant that my honey and I got to enjoy an only slightly delayed Valentines date. We love our boys but it was a well-deserved break! THANK YOU NANA!

I think I've mentioned that we are looking to move to a bigger house this spring and we've been looking somewhat casually and working to get our house ready to list in the next few weeks. Well, we went and toured a house on Friday that we like quite a bit. We like it so much that we have moved up our timeline to try and list our house by the end of the week! So Justin and I went to dinner at Chuys and spent the rest of our date night doing a little shopping for a few pieces to stage our house. I didn't take a "before" picture (we just had a random scattering of framed photos and such), but here is our new and improved (depersonalized) mantle!

Jackson had a great time playing with his Nana all weekend!

Andrew enjoyed his snuggle time with his Nana too!

This silly boy loves to "work" on his playscape. Whenever he goes to play outside he insists on donning his toolbelt, tools and hard hat!

It was a lovely family weekend!

We will be working hard over the next few days to get the house ready to list and then we will have to keep it clean all the time. I'm dreading it! My blogging is likely going to suffer while we have the house on the market because the time I normally spend blogging will be the time we will need to spend straightening up every night. So, say a prayer for us that the house sells QUICK so we can move on and get back to normal life!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!
Here are the Valentine's the boys shared with their classmates and teachers today....

Jackson's were attached to a George book, of course!
My honey and I have a date planned for Saturday night, so today was just about celebrating our two little loves.

Andrew's face in this one cracks me up. I think he's thinking "Dad, how many pictures do we have to take?"
Jackson got to open all of his cards and packages from his grandparents. He was very excited about "mines dollars!" from Granny and Papa John.

And then we cranked the romance up a notch with a heart shaped pizza.

The evening was capped off with bubble baths....

and sweet baby giggles....

On a day set aside for celebrating the ones you love, we know we are blessed to have so much to celebrate!

Somewhere Out There

Our tiny virtuoso has another song for you. I particularly enjoy the vibrato at the 17 second mark. Sweet little hot mess. =)

Andrew Finds his Toes

Andrew found his toes!

First the right foot...
Then the left...
This is my focusing face.
Please appreciate the great effort he exerted to make his discovery....

I had the best day with you

We woke up to pouring rain with no change in the forecast for most of the day. It was the perfect day to sleep in, but of course our precious, darling little two year old doesn't believe in sleeping past 7:30. So instead it became the perfect day for making a fort in the living room.
We had the best time playing in Jackson's "cave", pretending like we were bears hibernating for the winter. Jackson has the best imagination! He's so much fun to play with, and conveniently, hibernating requires lots of snuggling with my favorite big boy.
Once the rain stopped, we needed to let him burn off some energy before nap time. So we headed out in search of puddles to splash in! What fun!

And this little one is just a ray of sunshine, no matter the weather!

It was just a great day.We had no where to be and just spent the day doing things we knew the boys would enjoy. I don't think it could have been any better!

Praise Ye the Lord

Jackson's Chapel Favorites concert series continues, this time with his stirring rendition of 'Praise Ye the Lord'. Enjoy!

And just because he's cute....
