Beach Vacation Finale

Seeing as though our vacation was over a month ago I don't feel like I can stretch this out for anymore posts so here's the rest of the recap in one huge post!

On Tuesday, we hit the beach in the morning again. Jackson loves, loves, loves the water and it was so hard to keep him out of it! He would be playing happily with his bucket and shovel in the sand between our chairs one second and in the very next instant be running full speed towards the water. Needless to say, our time at the beach was anything but relaxing. But it was fun!

There were lots of cool birds. This is where Jackson learned the sign for bird.

It's good to be king.

In the afternoon after naptime we headed into Destin to the outlet mall. We scored some Children's Place pajamas in the next size up for Jackson and stopped in the little park area to swing for a few minutes.

On the way back from Destin, we stopped at Sara K's Gourmet to get some dinner. Sara K's is a really neat concept--perfect for families with toddlers! It's gourmet take-out that you take home to heat up and devour.  The crab cakes were the best I've ever had! If you can't make the trip to Destin, don't worry they ship!

We enjoyed our meal on the patio again. Perfect!

We bought Jackson a bubble gun which he thinks is the best thing ever! He yells "bubble!" every time he sees it.

After dinner we headed down to the beach to enjoy the gorgeous sunset.

On Wednesday we enjoyed more of the same...but you know what? It never got old!
Lazy river with dad.

He really enjoyed the covered toddler play area. They had all these really cute sea creatures for the kiddos to climb, slide and crawl on.

Yes, Frog enjoyed the trip too, of course!

By this time in the week, the crowds had really thinned out (it wasn't that crowded to start with) so we basically had the toddler area to ourselves. We finally tried out the water slide. It was a hit!

Our post-nap activity for this day was to visit the National Air Force Armament Museum at Eglin Air Force Base. They had all sorts of really cool old planes there.

This is an SR-71 Blackbird, just in case you were wondering.

That evening, we bought a cool duck kite (seriously, it was a mallard duck and even flapped it's wings) and tried to fly it on the beach. The wind was whipping around so we weren't too successful, but we had fun trying. I took some cute pictures but apparently those were casualties of the hard drive crash.

On our last full day at the resort, we enjoyed some quality pool time.

The only picture we got of all three of us during the whole trip!

Practicing his swimming moves.

We went out to dinner again this night. I don't remember the name of the place. The food wasn't that memorable but it had a great view right on the beach, and we snapped some cute pictures while we were waiting for a table.

On our last day, we had decided to stay for an extra day (they actually paid us $5 to stay an extra day because it converted from a daily rate to the weekly rate on Day 7!) and just leave early in the afternoon rather than doing the conventional check out by 10 am. This allowed us to have an extra leisurely morning and check out when we felt like it, and travel through the night when Jackson would be sleeping anyway.

We enjoyed one last trip around the lazy river...

And then Jackson was feeling a little grouchy so I sat and snuggled with him in a beach chair and he was out in about 2 minutes. I finished 'The Help' in the sunshine with a cool ocean breeze and a sweet sleeping baby on my chest. Bliss. =)

Soon it was time for us to head back to Texas, but not without some "Farewell Beach" pictures.

Mad because Dad was making him get out of the water.

We didn't want him to get in the water because a swarm of jellyfish had moved in overnight! It was crazy! There were literally thousands of them. It made it a tiny bit easier to leave the beach, though!

Bye bye beach! We'll be back!

Don't you just love October?

Now for a break in the vacation recap...

We went to a fun Halloween party on Saturday night hosted by our friends Jake and Christen Hayes. They throw a great party and we had such a good time! Jackson, the little party animal, amazingly stayed up until 11:45 PM! I thought he would crash hours earlier but he was happy and having a good time showing off for everyone so we just let him stay up.

When it came to costumes, we just simply didn't have the time for labor intensive costumes like Justin rocked last year. So Justin and I already had these Snow White and Prince Charming costumes in the closet from the Disney themed Orientation Leader banquet a few years ago. A quick trip to Hobby Lobby/Target on Saturday morning and Jackson was all ready to go too!

Isn't he just the cutest little dwarf you've ever seen??

The Flintstones were there too!

Fred, Wilma and Pebbles "Acosta-Stone"

Daddy and the Dwarf.

Snow White and her sweet little Dwarf boy.

Christen always has the best costumes! She was a perfect "Flo" from the Progressive commercials. Jake was super clever with his non-costume costume as a "Nudist on Strike".

Friends Abby, Carrie and Ashley.

I'm so glad we got a chance to celebrate Halloween and don our costumes as we will not be at home on Halloween. We are headed to New Orleans this weekend for a conference for my work and some fun sightseeing and male-bonding for the boys. They will have a great time but Jackson will miss out on his Halloween party at school and trick or treating, so I'm glad we got to dress him up for this.

We slept in on Sunday and then headed to the pumpkin patch.Yes, Jackson and Justin had already gone when Nana was in town but I didn't get to go so we went back!

I'll take this one and this one and this one...
We met the sweet Acosta family there too! Amber got some better pictures of this adventure and shared them on her blog here.

It's so fun seeing these two growing to have more in common! Jilly is really catching up and can now crawl to keep up with our crazy man.

Mommy with the cutest little pumpkin we could find to take home!
