Jackson's Mad Skills

Normally at night, Jackson sleeps for about one big 4 hour stretch and then a couple of 2 hour stretches, and usually goes right back to sleep between feedings. This morning though, after he ate around 6 am, he was wide awake and ready to party. He was just being so cute so I decided to get up with him and let him play for a while. Check this kid out!

I know every mom thinks their kid is advanced, but rolling over is pretty good for 6 weeks, right?!

We also sat and talked for a little while:

Have a happy Thursday!!

The one he will hate me for when he's older...

Some parents are awoken by their babies by their cries, coos, or later even by the pitter patter of little feet in the hallway...I am awoken by my son's very loud flatulence and the occasional grunt as he fills his diaper...makes me giggle every time...

Don't these two pictures just say it all? This week was great because our little boy started to smile! We had seen some flukey, random smiles before, but earlier this week he started smiling at us when we talk and play with him. The smiles are still rare and somewhat unpredictable, but that just makes them that much more precious!

Last weekend we had a great visit with my mom, dad and grandma (Grammy, Pop, and Grandma-Grandma to Jackson). We shopped some on Saturday and went to church on Sunday, but mostly just hung out, letting them soak up as much time with our sweet boy as possible.

Grandma lives in Florida so we only see her a couple of times a year. We were so lucky that she's been able to spend most of the summer in Texas, and has been able to be part of everything up to this point from the baby shower in Nac back in May to the excitement of Jackson's birth and first few weeks. We love you Grandma-Grandma and hope it's not too long before we see you again!

Happy One Month Jackson!

Today Jackson is one month old! It's hard to believe that a month has already passed, but at the same time, it is hard to remember our life before him! He is growing quickly with his little cheeks, arms and legs plumping out nicely. His awake periods are growing longer--today he was awake for almost 3 continuous hours--and he is much more alert during these times. He is working on holding his head up and is beginning to make vocalizations other than crying. When he is sitting and "talking" to someone, you can tell he wants to smile so bad. I expect his first real smiles in the next week or two. He loves hanging out with Mommy in the Baby Bjorn which lets me have my hands free to eat dinner, put on makeup, do the laundry, etc. He enjoys his bath time now and cried today only when we took him out of the tub. Coinciding with his one month birthday, he also had a big first today--his first bottle! He didn't hesitate to take the bottle (little punk) but promptly spit up a lot of it. We will have to keep working on that... All in all at one month, he's generally a very happy baby and we are enjoying every moment with him!

Keeping the Social Calendar Full...

We've kept busy in the past week hanging out with lots of wonderful people! Last week on Thursday, we had our first play date with Katy and little Emmy! Emmy was born 9 days before Jackson and the mommys had a good time cruising the mall while the little ones slept like champs. On Thursday evening, Jackson's Nana (Justin's mom) came to visit and stayed through the weekend. We had visits over the weekend from Morgan Turpin (one of Jackson's "big sisters") and then Morgan and Nicole Priolo, our friends from church (big thanks to them for dinner--twice!!). On Tuesday, Aunt Melly (my sister) came to visit us for the rest of the week. We were also able to have game night with our friends Jake and Christen on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, Alex, one of Jackson's SAAHE Aunts drove up from Houston to meet him. Jackson has been so good with all of his visits and visitors! A few pictures from the week...

Jackson's Newborn Photo Shoot

We have an amazing photographer! Sarah Giles with Butterfly Chaser Photography came to our house when Jackson was only 8 days old and did an amazing newborn photo shoot with us. She has put our "sneak peak" up on her blog! The pictures are amazing and we are so excited to share! Thank you, Sarah, for so beautifully capturing our little guy!

Apparently he loves the outdoors!

This week we were hanging out, watching daytime tv (which I am already tired of) and Jackson started to fuss for no apparent reason (he is obviously bored with daytime tv as well). So I thought he might like a change of scenery and decided we would walk out to get the mail. As soon as we stepped outside, he quieted down. It was an unseasonably cool day (only the upper 80s! It's all relative, right?) so I decided to sit in the rocking chair on the porch with him for a little while. My previously fussy baby was perfectly content to just hang out there, enjoying the breeze and observing the grass, bushes, and trees. So I decided to take him for a walk around the neighborhood. As proof of his love of the great outdoors, here are a couple of pictures...

A Blog Resurrection

I actually started this blog back before we got pregnant, but then the first trimester fatigue set in and I couldn't muster the energy to do anything besides lay on the couch, nor did I think anyone else wanted to hear about my pregnancy woes. But now that the little man has arrived, we will use the blog as a forum to share pictures and videos, provide updates on milestones, etc.

This week, Jackson is 3 weeks old! Last weekend we went on our first road trip to Nacogdoches to celebrate the 4th. He was an absolute champ in the car and slept entirely through the 2 1/2 hours each way. Phew. We had a great weekend with my family out at my parent's lake house. The rest of the family enjoyed some time on the boat, but since Jackson is still so tiny, we opted just to hang out at the house. On the evening of the 4th, we all headed downtown to watch the city fireworks--Jackson slept through the fireworks in his Granny's arms. I had bought this tiny "first 4th" outfit for Jackson several months ago when I was still pregnant and just hoped it would fit him, since I had bought it in the newborn size. It did still fit and looked adorable, but Jackson wasn't so excited about having his picture taken in it.

Now that Jackson's umbilical cord stump has fallen off (it fell off the day after his 2 week doctor's appointment when the doctor treated it with some silver nitrate to speed the drying process), we can give him real baths.

We can't believe how much he is growing and changing each day! Last week at his doctor's appointment he weighed 8 lbs, 8 oz so he had all but regained his birthweight of 8 lbs, 10 1/2 oz, so at this point he is probably close to 9 lbs. His newborn size clothes are getting snug and he has officially outgrown newborn size diapers. He seems to be staying awake for longer periods of time and is growing more alert each day. We are quickly learning his little personality and likes and dislikes. Daddy has gotten to stay home with us this whole time, working from home and just going in to the office for a few hours some days. We plan to keep this up for as long as his work will allow it! We have been enjoying this family time and are just trying to savor every moment with our precious little boy!
