Letter to Jackson at 2 Weeks

My dear boy,
Where do I begin? The last 2 weeks have been indescribable. Since I was a little girl, I dreamed about being a mommy and thanks to you, now I am. You are a dream come true, an answer to prayers, and absolutely perfect in every way.
One of my favorite moments of the last 2 weeks was our second night in the hospital. Daddy went and got dinner and a pint of ice cream and he fed it to me as I fed you and we just sat and admired you--this tiny miracle we had created. You have made us a family. It has been so fun watching all of your aunts, uncles, and grandparents fall in love with you. We’ve been Skyping with Grammy and Aunt Melly every day because they can’t stand to be away from you.
Jackson, you are already growing and maturing so fast. During your first week, you absolutely hated getting your diaper changed, and you would scream like you were in a tremendous amount of pain. Now, it seems that you almost like it, usually not crying at all and instead just looking around or gazing up at me or daddy. You are already holding up your head and you’re really strong! You are a great eater and have been since the first day. I absolutely treasure our quiet moments together when you are nursing and it’s just you and me. You don’t have much of a schedule right now, but that’s ok because we don’t really have anywhere to be and we spend most of our days hanging out in our PJs. If you decide that you want to be awake at 4 in the morning, I just take you into your nursery and we sing and rock and read some stories until you are ready to drift back off again.  It’s one of those great ironies that throughout the pregnancy, I kept hoping that time would pass quickly so we could hurry up and meet you. Now I plead for each day to go slower so that I can savor every precious moment with you. I have about 10 weeks of maternity leave left but I am already dreading the end of this time with you.
As I write this, you are sleeping soundly in my arms. I hope that I can always remember you just as you are right now. As you sleep in your sweet little Carters onesie (for the record it’s your 4th outfit of the day because we seem to be having a problem with leaky diapers), you are snoring lightly and you have that slightly concerned look on your face that we see most often that I think you inherited from your daddy. You are tiny (8 lbs, 8 oz today—almost back to your birthweight), smell like sweet milk and Baby Magic from your bath last night and you are perfectly innocent. You are mine. You have captured my whole heart and I thank God every day for choosing me to be your mom.
I love you more than I ever thought possible.
Always,
Your Mommy
